Document scope

Solution brief covering the Syneto Disaster Recovery topology: Smart Replicator engine, supported patterns (1:1, fan-in, fan-out, cascade), bandwidth budget math, failover/failback runbooks and the four-tier SLA Policy table that ships out of the box.

The problem03
Chapter 01 · The problem

DR plans that don't survive contact.

Most organisations have a DR plan on paper. Few have actually tested it end-to-end. The first real failover usually exposes assumption gaps that cost hours or days of business interruption.

Replication Post-snapshot, doubles RPO In-band, sub-minute
Bandwidth Full block copies Delta + dedup + compress
Failover Manual runbook, hours One-click, <5 min
Failback Often unsupported Symmetric, automated

Replication pipeline: each Recovery Point is delta-encoded, deduplicated, compressed, encrypted — then shipped to the DR cluster.

What's replicated

Every SyFS Recovery Point — application-consistent at minute granularity, including VM configuration, virtual disks, and metadata.
Block-level deltas only after the first seed — typical 90% WAN-bandwidth reduction vs. full snapshot copy.
In-flight AES-256-GCM end-to-end. Mutual TLS pinning available for compliance-sensitive environments.
Inline deduplication + compression — additional 3-5× reduction on top of delta-only.

Topologies.

sync Primary 1:1 active-passive DR site Branch A Branch B Branch C Central vault fan-in Datacentre 1:N source DR site Test/dev Cloud archive Primary cascade DR site Vault
Four supported topologies: 1:1, fan-in, fan-out, cascade. Mixable per dataset — a single site can be primary for one workload and DR for another.
Bandwidth math (per VM, 100 GB virtual)
  • Daily change rate: ~3 GB
  • After dedup: ~1.8 GB
  • After compression: ~1.0 GB
  • Spread over 24h: 11.6 KB/s avg
  • 100 VMs cluster: ~1.16 MB/s WAN
What this means
  • 100 VMs replicate over a 10 Mbps link
  • 1,000 VMs replicate over 100 Mbps
  • No backup window required
  • No "weekend job" risk
  • Sub-minute RPO sustained 24×7

Failover workflow06
Chapter 04 · Failover workflow

From healthy to failed-over in <5 minutes.

01

Declare

Operator clicks Failover in CENTRAL. Two-person approval if policy requires.

02

Promote

DR site promotes the most recent replicated Recovery Point. Read/write enabled.

03

Boot

VMs power on in the configured order. Boot dependencies respected.

04

Network

DNS, IP, gateway and VLAN policies applied automatically via runbook variables.

05

Reverse

Once primary is back online, reverse replication starts. Failback at chosen time.

Outcomes07
Chapter 05 · Outcomes

Single-vendor SLA, single console.

No separate DR product

No third-party orchestrator. No agents. No "replication appliance". SynetoOS handles every step natively.

Same UI, same skills

IT operates DR with the same console used for daily work. No "DR week" learning curve.

One support line

During an incident, you call Syneto. No finger-pointing between vendors.

Auditor-ready evidence

Every failover and drill emits a signed CENTRAL report — directly usable for NIS2 / DORA evidence.
