180 stores, 180 IT problems.

Each store ran a Windows Server + external USB drive for "backup". USB drives went missing, were never tested, and the few drills run from the central NOC failed silently. The chain had no realistic recovery story.

Per-store HYPER Edge G2 (fanless 16-core). All 180 stores fan-in to a central HYPER Echo vault at the European datacentre. CENTRAL is the single fleet view.
One HYPER Edge G2 per store, wall-mounted in the existing IT cabinet (fanless — no AC, no rack).
Each store replicates Recovery Points every 15 minutes to a central HYPER Echo vault at the European DC.
CENTRAL pushes fleet-wide policy: SLA tier, firmware version, NTP, monitoring agents.
Store deployment: 30-minute self-install with a one-page printed runbook. No IT visit required.

The flood incident.

Eight months in, one store flooded — burst pipe overnight. The HYPER Edge G2 was destroyed. The replacement unit was on a courier truck within 90 minutes; the store was operational again that afternoon with all Recovery Points pulled from the central vault.
